Magellan announced the latest generation of the RoadMate series of portable vehicle navigation devices. The new series includes models in a variety of screen sizes and feature sets to meet any consumer navigation needs. At its core, the new line is designed to bring daily relevance to the GPS navigator by helping consumers get to new and familiar places quicker.

Now, Magellan’s new 2010 RoadMate navigators all come with integrated Free Lifetime Live Traffic. This service, which is provided to Magellan customers, keeps the Magellan RoadMate apprised of any traffic conditions that may delay the drive and calculates route options for the driver to choose from. Magellan has overhauled the traffic interface to provide a higher level of control and now additionally focuses on flow reporting which detects traffic congestion and not just reported accidents. The 2010 Magellan RoadMate line maintains the comprehensive features consumers have come to expect. New routing

Garmin, the number one selling portable navigation device (PND) company in the world, is enhancing its nüvi range with the inclusion of a generous five inch screen, designed for greater clarity and easier in-car viewing. The new additions to the range which are available instore now include the nüvi 1450T and nüvi 1490T.

The two new models incorporate all the features of the existing nüvi range, including Garmin’s distinctive Real View Advanced Lane Guidance that accurately depicts the surrounding environment with a true to life representation of the scene that drivers would see when approaching an intersection. Powered by Whereis®, this guidance shows drivers which lane, side of road, slip way or branch the driver should steer down to follow the specified route to their destination. Garmin announced the nüvi 1200 and nüvi 1300 series – an innovative family of navigators with a new ultra-thin design that offer enhancements for navigation in and out of the car. This new series of products introduced at CeBIT in Hannover, Germany, March 3-8, 2009, is ideal for the consumer who wants advanced features at a value price. The nüvi 1200 and 1300 series are the first nüvi devices to offer pedestrian navigation capability enabled through optional CityXplorer™ maps. CityXplorer maps are available for select tourist destinations in both North America and Europe, and can easily be downloaded directly to the nüvi.

Various models of the nüvi 1200 and 1300 product families also provide other premium features like free lifetime traffic alerts and lane assist for added confidence in navigating complicated intersections and turns. All these new devices feature text to speech, a technology that enables the enunciation of names and upcoming roads – enhancing confidence while navigating in unfamiliar locations.
