Vodafone managed to get the new HD2 smartphone from HTC on sale a week ago, but if you want to go with O2 then this new Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone is now on sale from today. The HD2 is special in a number of ways including the fact that it has a 4.3 inch screen (compared to the 3.5 inch of an iPhone) and a 1Ghz processor.
Yes, you read that right, a 1Ghz processor… My laptop only has a 1.6Ghz processor and is running Windows 7, so you can imagine the power of this phone. If you are thinking that a phone with a 4.3 inch screen and a 1Ghz processors is going to be bulky and heavy, think again. The HD2 is just 11mm thick and weighs in at 157 grams.
In terms of hardware features the HTC HD2 has everything. It comes with a 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and dual LED flash. For connectivity it has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as well as GPS. One great feature is that it has a standard 3.5 mm stereo audio jack for the headphones. I have an Asus Window Mobile 6.1 smartphone and it constantly bugs me that the headphones connect via the mini USB port which means A) I can’t charge it while I am driving and listening to music. B) I can’t use any other headphones. For storage the phone comes with a microSD card slot which can take cards up to 16GB.
Software wise the HD2 uses Windows Mobile 6.5 which means it is very finger friendly (no stylus here) and comes with YouTube, Facebook and Twitter integration. There is also support for the Windows Mobile Marketplace (the Microsoft equivalent of Apple’s app store for the iPhone) where you can browse and download applications for your phone.
“The HTC HD2 is the first HTC branded phone to be sold on O2. We love the large screen and combination of Windows Mobile 6.5 with HTC Sense,” said Steve Alder, General Manager Devices for O2 in the UK. “We are proud to be the home of smartphones and the HTC HD2 adds a new dimension to the range of devices we offer to our customers.”
